Agenda points

Open session-for all ice2ice members!

The open session includes anyone involved in the project (PIs, teams, students…) and focuses on the work done. 4 short (10-15 minutes + 5 minutes of questions and answers session) presentations are given by the main actors, describing the general status of the project, timelines, new ideas or visions, problems. The ERC delegation listens and asks clarification questions. ERC delegation being from various research fields, the presentation must be formulated in a way that makes it accessible to the educated layperson.

The outline of the presentations

  1. (15 min): goals and status of the project – research question: objectives, scientific approach, timelines, overview of resources, organisation etc.
  2. (10 min): vision and strategy – short and long term views, transformative dynamics of research fields, methodologies, etc.
  3. (10 min): challenges – regarding science and organisation, implementation, administration, etc.
  4. (10 min): research community reaction, competitors, publications, training and dissemination activities

Meeting Ph.D. students or post-docs

The Synergy assessment group would like to meet only with the project’s Ph.D. students or post-docs for a 30-minute informal discussion. During these meetings, the visitors wish to learn about the Ph.D. students’ and post-docs’ experience in the project, their involvement in it, how the supervision works, etc.

Closed session

This session is aimed only at the principal investigators. This session aims at exploring more specifically the synergetic aspects of the project. Outstanding scientists are part of the project, who could in principle pursue their science alone, through regular collaboration channels used by the community. A central question to the review is to determine the synergetic aspect of the project, to have a view whether the collaboration of the PIs can result in science that is more than just the sum of the mere parts. The relationship between the various teams and the working arrangements can be discussed, as well as staff management. Finances and administrative issues can be brought up. A correlation between research plan, budgets and accounts/expenses can be discussed, if wished. Possible questions regarding administrative issues can also be brought up during this session. The Principal investigators have the opportunity to express problems, wishes, ideas, vision, etc.
